Markfield is a commuter village in the Hinckley and Bosworth district of Leicestershire, England. It is to the south-east of junction 22 of the M1, and to the south of the A50. Nearby places are Newtown Linford, Groby, Field Head, and Stanton under Bardon. In the 1831 census its population was recorded at 1,088. [1] The modern civil parish in the 2001 census had a population of 4,474.[2]

Not including Field Head (which is now mainly considered as a part of Markfield since the two became joined), Markfield has three pubs, The Red Lion, The Queen's Head, and The Bull's Head. A fourth (The George) has recently closed down in favour of an Indian restaurant, Imli (Imli has since gone out of business and is now boarded up). The future of the site is uncertain. Markfield has three foreign cuisine takeaways, a fish and chip shop, a newsagent, Just Naturally Healthy - an independent shop selling organic produce, a Co-Operative Supermarket, a financial advisory office, a doctor's surgery, a chemist's, a Londis, a Post office, a well-funded library and a cafe called the Markfield Bakery. There are also several hair-dressing salons and an industrial estate. In the past Markfield has had a gift shop, a wool shop, a clothes shop/dressmakers, a pet shop (with statue of the man with a lost cat), a vegetable shop, two other general stores, a florist, an equestrian store. Markfield has a well-funded Community Centre, youth activities, and lots of nearby countryside such as Hill Hole Nature Reserve. alter stones playing field and a nature reserve, as well as being very close to the National Forest. Also it has a wide range of playing spaces in which children may enjoy.
