The RSPCA is appealing for information after a young emaciated puppy, thought to be aged around six weeks old, was abandoned in a cat carrier in a supermarket car park.

The female dog, thought to be a springer spaniel or pointer crossbreed, was found by a passer-by quivering in the carrier in the car park of Tesco, in Derby Street, Leigh, on Wednesday, 10 August.

RSPCA issues neutering plea after spate of cat abandonments in Coventry

The RSPCA is reminding people about the importance of cat neutering after a spate of cat abandonments at the charity’s Coventry branch.

One of the cats abandoned at the Coundon Wedge Drive centre in recent weeks was particularly vulnerable as she was heavily pregnant, and another was dumped on a hot day.

Jade Mason, the branch’s cattery supervisor, said staff were concerned that people were abandoning animals at the branch. She said: “This puts the cats in a very vulnerable ... Continue reading...

Can you rehome a black cat on Black Cat Appreciation Day?

They are supposed to symbolise good luck – but sadly in reality, not all black cats are so lucky.

The RSPCA’s Stafford, Wolverhampton and District branch has become inundated with black cats which they are struggling to rehome – and they currently have more black than any other colour.

Alison Plant, from the branch, said: “Sadly many of our long-term cats who have been with us for many months are black, which is such a shame as they are all ... Continue reading...

Coo’s making that noise? Bird rescued from Birmingham chimney thanks to neighbours

The RSPCA is urging people to ensure their chimneys are not a hazard to wildlife after a pigeon was found dangling from his feet in a bricked-up fireplace – and is believed to have been stuck there for at least six days.

The bird had a lucky escape after we were contacted by the residents of a house in Elmbridge Road, in Birmingham on Saturday, 6 August, after they heard loud bangs from the wall of their living room. Thinking ... Continue reading...

RSPCA inspector Charlotte Melvin was called to the incident in Orme Road, in Newcastle, Staffordshire, on Thursday, ... Continue reading...
