24 hours - daily Sanctuary life

 alt

Problems.    Problems.   Problems.   It's a rollercoaster life at a sanctuary.   First difficulty of the day - a Rottweiler with an attiitude problem.

Doggy skin problems

 alt

Itch, scratch, itch - first you notice a small bare patch on your dog's coat, then it gets bigger,  The stray shown in the picture was covered in sores.  The more your dog scratches, the worse it gets.   What's going on?

A poor little dog is brought in

alt

When a tiny dog is brought to us in such a bad way, it's always shocking.

Dognappers are back

 alt

There's been a spate of missing dogs in recent weeks.  None have been brought in or turned up anywhere else - it's always the valuable and young dogs and it's as though they've disappeared from the face of the earth...

Why we like dogs .....

 alt

Truly man's best friend .......

Dog's never expect you to phone ....

Dogs missing in March

Please get in touch with us if you have any news of the following dogs reported missing to us in the Chesterfield area in the last few days:

A black labrador male  -  A white staffi puppy  -  A brindle staffi an older dog - a Jack Russell female  -  a female collie.

Is there a link between dog food and disease?

alt

It seems obvious to us that despite the glossy advertisements and all the hype, a lot of the dog food on offer today is of poor nutritional value and in some cases may contribute to the chronic conditions that so many pets seem to suffer from.   We see more skin diseases, epilepsy, diabetes, hyperactivity, tumours and arthiritis than we ever did thirty years ago.    The manufacture and sale of pet food is a business.    It isn't cooked over an Aga in a country kitchen - it's made in factories.   The actual 'meat' content is usually very low.  Who knows what the animal derivatives are.  The vet bills for a much loved and ailing elderly pet are often very high.   Yet most dogs in the past were active and healthy to a ripe old age.   We're getting more conscious about the need to source the ingredients in our own food, and avoid 'ready' meals.   Isn't it time to do the same for our pets?

DR.JOHN'S PLATINUM - WITH GREEN LIPPED MUSSEL - FOR OLDER DOGS WITH CREAKY JOINTS

 alt

DR. JOHN'S PLATINUM - MAKES A REAL DIFFERENCE TO OLDER DOGS - with mixed herbs, rich in Crustaceans and with Green Lipped Mussels - extra chicken and added vitamins and minerals -  excellent for the 'golden oldies' - this complete food is very palatable and we have found it to make a real difference to the health and mobility of older dogs who are suffering from arthiritis and 'creaky' joints.   15kg  - only £14.50.     4kg - £5.50.  In stock now
